I've never noticed the phrase 'alien work' before. I find that a very helpful way to think about the destructive judgement found in passages like these.

Salvation is God's characteristic work. Destruction is alien work.


V 16 So, this is what the Sovereign Lord says Behold, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic....
