Eve's sons made offerings to the LORD. Only Abel's was acceptable, so Cain killed him. Abel's blood cried out and God sent Cain away.

I find it interesting that Cain only killed Abel out of jealousy cos God favd Abel's offering (fat juicy animal) to Able's (crops). Couldn't God have shown equal appreciation for both? They brought what they had!

Due to sin the Land was cursed, therefore the crops which came directly from the earth were also cursed. the symbolism of animal sacrifices also was preparing man for Jesus

Regarding the case of Cain's offering, it was not the just the crops in itself. It was the show of appreciation of the first-fruits of the earth that was the issue. Unfortunately Cain did not recognize that his Creator gets that offering before he does.

I think your summary was great...and direct to the point.

Thanks for this summary and the comments bring fresh insights... I think v7 sums up why Cains offering was not accepted when it says...If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? God knew Cains heart and attitude as He knows us.

The more I read chapter 4 I begin to understand why God honored Abel offering more then Cain
Adam lived with his wife eve and she became pregnant, and gave birth to Cain. Later eve gave birth to Abel. Abel kept flocks and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to God, But Abel brought fat portions from some of the first born of his flock. God has favoured Abel’s offerings, but on Cain’s offerings he did not favour. After that Cain had killed Abel because of his jealousy and aggressiveness.

Perfect... but the only think I would rather for you to do is make it a bit longer

So the earth is populated... And where did Cain's wife come from?
"People began to call on the name of the Lord."

What I understand from the chapter is that before we offer any offering to God, our heart must be clean and we must be upright with God. Because God searches the heart.
What do you make of this chapter? What do you think of my summary? How would you summarise it?
