David prayed V 3 But You, Lord are a shield around me.
He did not pray for the Lord to be a shield around him...what he said was a bold statement. Knowing what God had done gives David confidence in what the Lord would
do.

David, the parent,is bewailing his rebellious son, whom he loves. David, the king, knows full well the true king, God. David, the experienced believer, offers thanks to his God, Lord of lords, Savior, Protector

They are written to help you understand and remember what's going on in the chapter, but they're no substitute for reading the Bible for yourself.
